Mile High

From January 20 to May 15 there will be a Mile High Challenge at the Rock Wall. Students will get the opportunity to climb the Rock Wall 211 times by the end of the spring semester and get a free t-shirt to prove they did it!

ROA Coordinator Chris Huebner thinks the Mile High Challenge places a reachable goal in front of students to achieve this year. “This challenge benefits students because it puts them in an energetic atmosphere where other individuals are working toward the same goal,” he said. “Needless to say climbing 211 times in a semester puts students in pretty good shape.”

Students can enter the challenge by signing up at the Rock Wall check-in during open hours. The climbs are tracked through a check sheet that the Student Recreation and Wellness Center staff will hold onto and confirm the completion of the climb for the day.

ROA Assistant Josie Mandala knows students will love this challenge because it encourages students to be active and try something that may be a little out of their comfort zone or workout routine. “Most people don’t think of climbing a wall as a workout, but making it a new challenge motivates students to do something different, which they can really grow to enjoy,” she said.

Another ROA Assistant Daniel Guerrero expresses that this challenge is a great way to get a beginning experience with the outdoors. “Students can also gain a lot of knowledge about climbing safely; plus don’t forget about the free t-shirt,” he said.

The Rock Wall is open Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 3 p.m.to 8: 30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
