To add to the increasingly popular practice of yoga on our campus, the SRWC is presenting Yoga Workshops! These workshops are opportunities for both newcomers and regular yoga practitioners to explore both fundamentals and more advanced aspects of yoga.

The first workshop, Yoga 101, will taking place on Friday, Feb. 5 in the MAC gym from 12 to 2 p.m. It will be going over basic principles of hatha yoga, flow, alignment, breathwork and balance. There will also be a Q & A portion during the workshop.

“This yoga workshop presents basics and a clear vision of what takes place in a yoga class, so that students previously intimidated, skeptical or hesitant can be properly introduced to the practice,” said Interim SRWC Fitness Coordinator Leiana Swanson.

The second workshop is more advanced and will be taking place on Tuesday, April 15, also in the MAC gym from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. This workshop will entail arm balances, inversions, proper breathwork and unique yoga poses not usually taught in classes, so students can try new things outside of their usual yoga regiment.

“Yoga is something that’s continually growing and beneficial to everyone, at all ages and all abilities,” said Swanson. “Even if you are in a wheelchair, there are still ways you can practice yoga. It’s not just physical, it’s also mental, geared towards all around wellness. Rather than focusing just on burning calories, you can focus on mind and body connection.”
