Become the ultimate belayer in our Belay a Mile Challenge! The Rock Wall at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) has 211 different climbing routes for you to try out. Challenge your friends and reach new heights for an opportunity to win an awesome prize! Participants must be belay-certified through the SRWC Rock Wall to compete.

Enjoy a half day trip down to Newport Beach and participate in the Surfrider’s monthly beach clean-up. This is a free trip and also counts as one of your Condition For Tuition points. Help keep our beaches clean and get credit for it as well. We will also be stopping by Huntington Beach Main Street on the way back for one hour. You can shop or eat during that time. It is totally up to you!

Switzer Falls Hike

Enjoy a guided hike through the beautiful Switzer Falls area. This is an easy to moderate level hike and no prior experience is necessary. The day is filled with a hike to a waterfall, followed by possible swimming, a picnic, and an Introduction to Backpacking. This course will cover stove set up, boiling water, using water filters and building shelter in the wilderness. Fee includes transportation and a guided service by our experienced trip leaders.

Stoney Point Bouldering

Enjoy a full day of outdoor bouldering at the historic Stoney Point. Experienced trip leaders will be present to instruct participants on proper spotting techniques and crash pad placements. This is an advanced climbing trip, and participants are encouraged to have some prior bouldering and/or climbing experience. Fee includes transportation and all necessary gear rentals.

Ready to get into the outdoors for a bit of rock climbing? Join ROA for our climbing trip to Malibu Creek Canyon up in the Santa Monica Mountains. We will spend a day climbing and exploring the area. If you haven’t discovered this area yet, these are destinations you will be sure to remember. Fee includes transportation, lunch, and a guided service by our experienced trip leaders.

How Do I Pay?

  • To get your gear, stop by the SRWC Outdoor Shop, located at the Rock Wall, during opening hours and speak to one of our attendants. Please have your student ID number ready.
  • Let us know what gear you would like to rent. All equipment rentals are charged a daily rate. A deposit is required for all rentals and is refundable upon return of all equipment without damage or missing components.
  • Pay at the Outdoor Shop with one of our accepted payment methods according to the daily price + rental deposit fee.
  • Accepted payments include Discover, Mastercard, and Visa. Cash is not accepted. Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Google Pay are not accepted.

What is the Deposit?

  • The damage deposit is to ensure that our equipment is returned in a timely manner and in good condition.
  • We understand that with use comes dirt and general wear, resulting in the need to clean the gear between uses. However, excessive mud, moisture, holes, rips, burns, or missing components will result in the withholding of part or all of your deposit. In these cases, a cleaning fee or additional damage fee may be charged.
  • Deposits may be withheld until the actual cost of damages can be calculated.
  • Rental deposit amounts will correlate with the price of daily rental fees. Prices are as follows.

Students in Joshua Tree

Outdoor Adventure Trips are designed to give Long Beach State students fun and unforgettable experiences at various must-see destinations in the greater Southern California area. Activities include, but are not limited to, hiking, rock climbing, backpacking, surfing and paddleboarding.

Food, equipment and transportation are provided for all trips at no additional cost. Mandatory pre-trip meetings are required for all Overnight Trips.

Naples Paddleboarding

Bolsa Chica Surfing

Have you ever wanted to try surfing? Join us for a day along a part of the world famous 10-mile “Surf City USA” coastline! Malibu Overlook Hike

Take a hike with us on a trail to the Parker-Mesa Overlook in Malibu. The trail passes through beautiful oaks and wildflowers and ends with a breathtaking view of the canyons, ocean, and even Catalina Island. The hike is 7 miles and is rated as moderate difficulty. Lunch and transportation will be provided.

Strawberry Peak Hike

Sturdevant Falls Backpacking

Join us for an overnight adventure into the heart of the San Gabriel Mountains on a trail leading to one of the most breathtaking waterfalls in the greater Los Angeles area. Continuing on through shaded oaks and alder forest along the Big Santa Anita Creek to Spruce Grove Campground. Food, transportation, and equipment will be provided.

Want to try a new way to climb the Rock Wall? This pulley-assisted belay technique aids climbers up the wall at their own comfort and skill level. Participate in the experience or come to climb, regardless you're sure to have fun.

One of the most unique features at the SRWC is our custom-designed, 25-foot-high rock-climbing wall. FREE to all SRWC members! You can climb up and around the large rock, tackling fears and reaching new heights.
We offer bouldering and top rope climbing, including qualified staff at the ready to belay for you. But why wait for a belay when you can get qualified to belay yourself? We offer FREE Rock Climbing Classes that teach you how to become qualified to belay at our Rock Wall. We also offer lead climbing! Once climbers pass our Lead skills test, they are qualified to practice lead climbing at our Rock Wall. Our class schedule can be accessed on SRWC Go.
Climbing at our wall is FREE! Gear such as climbing harnesses, chalk bags, belay devices, climbing shoes and lead ropes are all included. The Rock Wall Attendants are equipped to assist you with belaying and all your climbing needs. New routes are set routinely and are set at varying difficulties.
