Join us in the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) hiking challenge! Hike with Long Beach State friends or make some new ones, set goals for yourself and compete with fellow students. It is simple, just log your hours on the Strava app! Enter the challenge for a chance to win special fitness-related prizes including a Garmin watch.
Download Strava, make an account and join the “SRWC Hiking Club” through the groups section of the app. From here, you can read instructions in the description on how to begin the challenge! The summer session ends August 13, so start now for a chance to win. Our spring hiking challenge just ended with a total of 1693.08 miles logged collectively amongst 49 participants. Fun fact: That’s longer than the distance from Mexico to Canada!
You can also hike along with some of our recommendations or find your own. A few of our favorites include Mugu Peak Trail, a scenic 2.81-mile loop in Point Mugu State Park. Be ready for a steep hike up to the peak for fantastic views spanning the coast and mountains of Malibu. Crystal Cove State Park is another great place to hike with many different trail options including various difficulties and lengths from around 3 to 5 miles. Afterwards, it’s an easy walk to the beach for a quick swim or some fun beach games! Parking is $15 per vehicle, so make a day of it and enjoy one of Southern California’s best preserved State Parks.
For more suggested routes check out the SRWC hiking club upcoming events section. Otherwise, you can give us a visit at the SRWC Rockwall, and ask us for our own personal recommendations. Our hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 3 to 8 p.m. and Fridays, from 1 to 6 p.m. Happy exploring! For more information, visit asirecreation.org/rock-outdoor.
