As we near the end of fall semester and are getting ready to enter a new year, the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) has much to be grateful for in 2021. The whole SRWC team pulled together to prepare the building for reopening with a lot of uncertainty about how everything would turn out.
Fortunately, we have seen great success and progress since reopening in April and none of it could have been possible without the student staff––and YOU, our members!
The SRWC is very proud that we have safely and successfully brought back most of our member services and events. This semester some popular special events came back such as RecFest, Womxn & Ally Night and Spa Night by the Water. In addition, we have been able to offer in-person group exercise classes and instructional fitness classes such as Pilates Reformer and LB49. Although we had limitations on which sports we could offer due to safety precautions, Intramural Leagues have been a hit and continue to give members the opportunity to participate on teams and compete in various games like sand volleyball, coed soccer and open soccer. The Aquatics and Safety department was also able to host a series of socially distanced CPR, AED, and first aid classes to certify many students, employees and members. Finally, our Rock and Outdoor Adventures team lead students on a handful of off-campus Outdoor Adventure trips with Naples Paddleboarding being a participant favorite.
The dedicated teamwork and the cooperation of all our members to help maintain a clean and safe environment have played a crucial role in the progress and success we have seen since we reopened. The SRWC could not thrive without our members, and we could not be more grateful to have you as part of the facility! As we continue to move forward into the new year and semester, we would like to thank all staff for their hard work in reopening the facility and our members for your continuous support through these challenging times of navigating this new normal.
